What is WordPress CMS and why do we (Burst) use it to build websites?
WordPress is a content management system from which a very wide range of websites can be built, everything from blogs to online shops. It provides an easy way to add and edit content and extend it’s functionality to cater to almost any need. Close to 30% of websites on the internet are built using WordPress.
We use WordPress.org, the open source software for building websites, not WordPress.com
There are two types of WordPress, WordPress.com and WordPress.org. WordPress.com is a cloud hosted blogging platform for hobby bloggers and such that works in a somewhat similar way to Wix.com. You choose a set template and fill in your info. This is not to be confused with WordPress.org, which is the platform we use.
WordPress.org is software that we install on a hosting account. This provides the base functionality to be able to add and edit content, We can also add plugins to extend the functionality, for example adding an online shop. We can also design and develop a template instead of using a preset or bought one, which means we can make your website look any way you’d like.
There are so many different ways to build a website, and so many CMS platforms such as Joomla and Drupal that offer slightly different functionality, but because of WordPress’s global support and popularity, it’s a great choice for us to build you a website that will be around for years to come.
